There are already some fire sale prices for good quality commercial properties. Some good quality Canadian REIT's with sustainable payout ratios that are trading at a P/E of between 1 to 3. That is indeed fire sale pricing.

Timing is a factor as well, as many people feel that commercial real estate has not even begun to implode yet. There will indeed be fire sale prices, though.

One hard asset that always goes up when inflation goes up is income generating real estate. Yet there are no news stories or newsletters talking about that. None at all. Oh well, that just leaves the door wide open to invest in solid income producing commercial real estate at fire sale prices in various countries for the few people who can think beyond today's headlines.

We're used to Bush's stimulus packages, who's sole purpose is to shovel money at the problem. This is a big problem, and leads to what the author is describing. However, from what economists are reporting, smart use and strategic placement of money will do a lot to revitalize the economy.

I mean, look at how FDR spent money: he paid people to dig up ditches, then paid more people to fill those ditches back in, and these types of programs worked wonderfully. Meanwhile, Bush's solution is to open up the treasury and dump free money into everyone's hands (ie, $53k to the top 1%), which of course is a horrible use of money.
