Government May “Nationalize” GM by Swapping Debt for Equity

In a move that would effectively nationalize the country’s largest automaker, the U.S. government is considering taking an equity stake in General Motors Corp. (GM) in exchange for part of the $13.4 billion it has already lent the company, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The tough thing about buying stocks is, you never know when they’ll appreciate in price (and you’ll make a profit). The other tough thing is, no matter how much homework you’ve done, there’s always a risk that something will go terribly wrong (fraud, accident, etc.) and your position will be wiped out. There are no guarantees when it comes to buying equity.



A Transparent Fed?

I’m seeing more and more talk/speculation of the Fed announcing an end to this rate cut cycle after cutting rates 25 BPS. Hmmm… Interesting, don’t you think? I mean, come on, when has the Fed ever been that transparent?
