The United States dollar continued to fall and that helped commodity stocks during Thursday trading on the Canadian Markets. For the tale of the tape; the TSX Exchange gained 0.71%, while the TSX Gold Index added 3.8% and the TSX Venture Exchange, Canada’s largest junior exploration bourse, surged 4.37% with the advancers swamping the decliners by a 467 to 289 margin on volume of 152 million shares traded.

A one day delay in the release of the bank bailout plan for the United States had the bulls and the bears battling to a draw during Monday trading on the Canadian markets. For the taile of the tape, the TSX Exchange added a modest 0.44%, while the TSX Gold Index fell back 4.4% and the TSX Venture Exchange, Canada’s largest junior exploration bourse, lost 0.91% with the declining issuers edging out the advancers by a 350 to 334 margin on 155 million shares traded.

The Canadian Markets continued to march off their 2008 bottoms during the first day of trading in 2009. For the tale of the tape, the TSX Exchange added 2.74%, while the TSX Gold Index was the lone loser falling 2% and the TSX Venture Exchange, Canada’s largest junior exploration bourse, tacked on 6.23% with the advancing issuers beating out the decliners by a 615 to 135 margin on volume of 144 million shares traded.

After two strong sessions, the Canadian Markets took a breather during Tuesday trading to digest the recent gains. For the tale of the tape, the TSX Exchange added a modest 0.02%, while the TSX Gold Index fell back 0.7% and the TSX Venture Exchange, Canada’s largest junior exploration bourse, lost 0.39% with the declining issuers outpacing the advancers by a 445 to 314 margin on volume of 145 million shares traded.
