Follow PIMCO into Fannie and Freddie Bonds
Last month, several Chinese banks moved to reduce their exposure to toxic US mortgage giants Fannie Mae (NYSE:FNM) and Freddie Mac (NYSE:FRE). They sold Fannie and Freddie debt.
The Chinese were dead wrong, says Eric Roseman.
The US government has implicitly guaranteed the safety of Fannie and Freddie. More important, Fannie and Freddie have some of the best ever spreads versus Treasury bonds.
Already this year, Fannie and Freddie bonds have jumped 3%.
Eric says it’s time to follow bond billionaire Bill Gross’s PIMCO into Fannie and Freddie bonds.
Why There’s Real Value Now in US Debt, Real Estate and Stocks
The dollar rally is still making headlines. Yesterday, the greenback hit its highest level against the euro since January. It also hit record a 3-year high against the British pound. The question is: Will it last?
Eric Roseman doesn’t think so. “You can’t really make a long-term bullish case for the buck right now,” says Eric in The Sovereign Society.
However, as the eurozone and Japanese currencies weaken on slowing growth, Eric says now is a great time to buy into distressed US debt, real estate and stocks…
Eric Roseman Says Stay Parked in Cash and Reverse ETFs
Banks still aren’t lending, says Eric Roseman in The Sovereign Society.
The LIBOR lending rate between banks is 81 basis points above the Federal Fund’s target rate of 2%.
This means even prime borrowers are struggling to raise capital, and it signals that the credit crisis has a ways to run yet.
Further tightening of credit also spells trouble for stocks. Eric advises investors to stay parked in cash, alternative investments and reverse ETFs…
The 4 Best Securities to Hold in the Coming Global Recession
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has downgraded world growth to 3.9% this year, from last month’s estimate of 4.1%. Next year’s outlook is also down - from 3.9% to 3.7%.
The Sovereign Society’s Eric Roseman predicts a far harsher global outlook. He says the world economy is staring down the barrel of the worst recession in 20 years.
This means it’s time to shift your focus to the securities that can protect your wealth from deflation. Eric says gold, high-quality Treasury bonds, non-financial A and AA corporate bonds and the U.S. dollar are your best bets…
Two Reverse ETFs Are Making a Killing in This Bear Market
Wall Street had a good day yesterday on the back of better-than-expected U.S. GDP data. The Dow rose 200 points.
But it’s not the long-only investors who are making money in this market. “For the first time since 2002 investors who sell short or bet against rising stock prices are basking in some real profits,” says Eric Roseman.
Despite recent gains, this is still as bear market. US stocks are down 20% since their October highs. Two reverse ETFs have been making a killing in this environment, says Eric…
Buy Fannie and Freddie Debt Now at Record Yield Spreads
The U.S. banking system is in hot water. According to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), a total of nine banks have failed this year. Five folded in July alone.
To stabilize the situation, the U.S. government is poised to bail out Freddie Mac (NYSE:FRE) and Fannie Mae (NYSE:FNM). This opens up a great opportunity for investor, says Eric Roseman in The Sovereign Society.
He is buying Fannie and Freddie short-term and intermediate-term debt up to a maximum of five years. Yields are at historic highs and the government won’t allow these institutions to fail.
Buy Corporate Bonds Now at Multi-Year Highs
Sovereign Society’s investment director Eric Roseman says he would rather hold investment-grade corporate debt than Treasury bonds. The yield in the corporate debt market is at a multi-year high and can be easily accessed via low-cost ETFs. But Eric says it is wise to avoid financial firms, as more trouble lies in store for this sector.
Is the U.S. Government Stopping Gold Coin Sales?
Last Thursday, we reported that high demand prompted the U.S. Mint to stop selling popular one-ounce 22-karat American Eagle bullion coins to dealers as they scramble to build the inventory back up.
Launched in 1986, the American eagle bullion program is a popular way for investors to buy gold and silver coins.
Eric Roseman in The Sovereign Society says collecting and investing in bullion has morphed into an outright bonanza for coin dealers this decade. Now, many gold bugs say the U.S. government is behind Mint’s decision to stop selling Eagle bullion coins.
Long-Term Outlook for Gold and Oil Is Bullish
Are the commodities markets changing track?
Yesterday, gold prices hit a 10-day high at $839 an ounce, crude oil prices soared overnight in their biggest rally for three months to settle at over $120 a barrel and the dollar saw its biggest monthly loss against the euro since mid-July.
These price movements will not come as surprise to Contrarian Profits regulars. Last Thursday, The Sovereign Society’s Eric Roseman urged investors not to abandon gold because he didn’t believe the dollar rally would last.
Eric Roseman Says Short Selling Will Help Protect Your Portfolio
When the bulls rule, it’s pretty easy to make money in the stock market. But The Sovereign Society’s investment director, Eric Roseman, says the next several years will be rough for global investors. That’s why successful investors will need to learn how to embrace short selling and hedging to protect their portfolios…
