Gold Hangs Onto Its Gains

Gold was up from the far East through the first half of the London market on Monday, declined in New York from the open to the noon hour, but then bounced decisively off of $900, and registered a gain for the day at $905.40/oz., up $3.80. Overnight, gold is little changed.

Gold futures closed at $899.90 an ounce Friday, the highest level in close to a month, gaining 1.6% on the week as lackluster economic data increased the precious metal’s appeal as an inflation hedge.



Gold Stages Strong Rally

Gold was dead flat straight through the overseas markets yesterday, but once the NYMEX opened it was off to the races, shooting as high as $887 before selling off about $8 at the noon hour, but then catching a second wind in the Globex and pushing to a finish at $881.00, up $16.60.



Precious Metals Hammered

Gold’s peak for the day came at the open of the New York session on Tuesday, at $880, and it plummeted from there nearly $20 during the first two hours of trading, before pushing back to finish at $866.10, down $16.10.
