Gold started making an upwards move at precisely midnight on Thursday night. It, and silver, rose until shortly before 6:00 a.m. New York time, when both mysteriously started to sell off.

Is the U.S. Fed done cutting rates? The commodities market seems to think so. Gold, platinum, palladium and silver all fell by the end of New York trading. Even oil was off its all-time highs though still above US$115.

Gold held around $905 until the opening of the New York session Thursday, then it became another smackdown day, with the price heading lower until early afternoon, after which it leveled off to finish at $886.60, down $18.20. Overnight, gold has edged lower.
