Just days after Chrysler LLC said it would be cutting one quarter of its auto dealerships, 1,100 General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) dealerships have reportedly been told not to expect a relationship with the embattled U.S. carmaker after October 2010.

As deep as the U.S. auto industry’s financial crisis seems to be, there may actually be a fairly simple solution. Sell out to China. Nearly a decade ago, I warned that Detroit’s Big Three – General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) and Chrysler LLC – had better learn to speak Chinese if they wanted to survive.

SAIC Motor Co. Ltd., China’s largest carmaker and the partner of both General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) and Volkswagen AG (OTC ADR: VLKAY) in that fast-growing Asian country, plans to launch a series of hybrid and electric vehicles by 2012 – part of a move by China’s carmakers to meet the growing market demand for “new-energy vehicles.”

Goldman Sachs thinks you can make 40% on Ford. I think that figure should be a lot closer to 400%. China has finally, truly and wholeheartedly embraced “21st century American-style capitalism.” God help them.

The weekend news from every corner of the globe [especially Europe and Britain] was absolutely wretched…and gold and silver did exactly what one would expect the moment that trading began in the Far East on Monday morning…they took off to the upside. However, for some strange reason, gold couldn’t make it above $960…and shortly after London opened…the gold price was under pressure once again. Then, at precisely 9:00 a.m. in trading on the Comex in New York…the rug, once again, got pulled out from under the price. The gold price began to rally again the moment that London closed for the day, but got stopped dead in its tracks at half past lunchtime in New York.

Laura Cadden of Today’s Financial News points out that the “commodity choice for investors” is Lithium. With the high global demand and the U.S. governments’ plan to invest over $2 billion on hybrid technology, Lithium is a smart investment.

Japan’s exports were cut nearly in half last month as the global downturn crushed demand for the country’s electronics and automobiles, a development that increases the odds that the Japanese yen could be poised for a tumble.
