The amount of green house gas produced by Canada's oil sands is in fact much less than any other oil sands producers such as Venezuela.

And if you honestly factor in the green house gas from oil tankers that carry oil from the middle east to the USA, then you'll find that Canada's oil sands are actually one of the cleanest oil sources in the world.

You see, Canada's oil goes straight to US refineries in pipelines and there's no green house gas produced by those pipelines. But there are literally tons of green house gas produced by each of the hundreds of oil tankers delivering oil to the USA every day.

The problem is that self proclaimed environmetalists are not interested in these facts. They are however interested in their political goals and getting donations by spreading mis-information and fear mongering. So they will continue to rant and lie about Canada's oil being dirty - because that's what they do for a living.

Peter; you should be on the front page of every newspaper in North America!!! United we stand strong- divided we are weak. You are on the right track,we Canadians need the U.S. as a trading partner desperatly and at this time the U.S. needs Canada more so.We are a resourse rich country and America is the greatest economic driver in the world. I hope President Obama's " together we can " includes Canada. One untapped oil resourse you didn't mention is the 50-90% of the oil left in the ground that could see additional recovery with enhanced oil recovry technology . The best way is to recover CO2 and pump it back into the oil formation to dilute the crude and pressure the field at the same time. When we agree to work together and focus on solutions we can be self sufficient in energy and water.eh!! Ted Quist.
