You can't separate emotions from economics, at least not until the robots take over. Euphoria drives the bubbles up beyond their normal target, and panic deflates them more painfully than is necessary. These boom and burst cycles are normal, but yes you are probably right that emotion warps them into the much larger problems that we are dealing with now.

An economy is what people believe it to be, not what it actually is. There are no true assets. There are just things that people agree on which are assets, and the same is true for their value. Emotion is the currency, and that currency has faltered. Emotion drives every human action including the failing economy and turning it around.

How can a system based on emotion be trusted. A blogger posted an article that Steve Jobs had a heart attack. The stock immediately dropped several points based on nothing except some idiots irresponsible reporting.

It's about time people take responsibility for their actions, and about time that those who do harm economically are held accountable.

If not, how much have we really evolved beyond monkeys (with all due respect to monkeys by the way)?

Our politicians are also lacking in personal responsibility and if they are not careful, they may find another revolution by the citizens at their doorstep.

I am optimistic however ... but we all need to start acting like adults, and start taking responsibility for our actions, services and products. Business needs to start thinking beyond next quarter and the media needs to do their job and stop offering their opinions, and present the facts.
