People love to shout "conspiracy" and imagine secret meetings of auto execs and oil tycoons. Bottom line, in the mid 90's with gas at $1 a gallon, the US not at war in the middle east, and no Al Gore screaming the world is ending (due to global warming), EVs were doomed from the start. But every crisis has its silver lining. Now, in 2008, we are in a position for the EV to succeed. However with gas prices rapidly falling, will you, the consumer, be so motivated to pay a premium for an EV? If not, if the question ever arises, "who killed the electric car THIS TIME", you have your answer.
